Chief Executive Officer
Bruce Elder is the Chief Executive Officer of MedQuest, Inc. Mr. Elder leads all strategy and development initiatives for MedQuest, including transactions, new facility development and capital projects, and has significantly expanded the company’s national footprint and position as a leading outpatient imaging partner for hospitals and health systems. Prior to rejoining MedQuest in 2014, Mr. Elder was a Principal at ghSMART, where he advised investors, boards and CEOs on key leadership and talent issues, including executive assessments, leadership development, organizational design and effectiveness, and talent management best practices. Before joining ghSMART, he was a member of MedQuest’s leadership team, with responsibility for development efforts, performance enhancement initiatives and Virginia operations.
Mr. Elder has experience in a number of healthcare leadership roles, including his tenure as a healthcare and business strategy consultant for iXL; Vice President, Development for Meridian Corporate Healthcare; and Coordinator of Business Development for Surgical Care Affiliates.
Mr. Elder has a BA in Political Science from Vanderbilt University and an MBA from the Owen Graduate School of Management at Vanderbilt University.
President and Chief Operating Officer
Mike Villa is the President and Chief Operating Officer of MedQuest, Inc. Mr. Villa oversees MedQuest’s imaging center operations, marketing and IT functions and serves as a member of the executive management team addressing all aspects of the business. Mr. Villa brings more than 25 years of experience in healthcare and consulting to the MedQuest team. His background in outpatient diagnostic imaging includes facility and practice development and acquisition, multi-location operations and systems design, and deep management expertise in multi-site operations. Mr. Villa joined MedQuest nearly two decades ago and served in EVP and COO roles before leaving in late 2006 to co-found Dominium Benefits, a consultancy focused on population health and health insurance program design for large employers.
Prior to joining MedQuest in 1998, Mr. Villa gained experience in healthcare, diagnostic imaging, finance and investment banking first at National Medical Resources and then with DVI, Inc. National Medical Resources was one of the first companies to engage in syndicating outpatient diagnostic imaging facilities largely with practicing physicians, a structure that literally created the industry. Mr. Villa later joined DVI, Inc., the industry leader in asset-based lending in high technology healthcare. At DVI Mr. Villa focused on diagnostic imaging and hospital transactions for numerous healthcare clients, sourcing acquisitions and arranging financing for over $100 million of projects.
Mr. Villa is a graduate of the University of Washington with a degree in Economics.
Chief Financial Officer
Leslie Kurtz is the Chief Financial Officer of MedQuest, Inc. She directs financial strategies, financial resource management and revenue cycle operations. Ms. Kurtz oversees all financial functions and is responsible for ensuring the quality of financial management across the organization, including accounting and GAAP compliance, budgeting, financial reporting and analysis, balance sheet management, treasury and tax planning.
Ms. Kurtz has more than 25 years of accounting and finance leadership experience in numerous industries within both public and private companies. She began her career at Arthur Andersen in audit, specializing in services to small business and technology companies. Ms. Kurtz later joined Coca-Cola Enterprises in the M&A and financial reporting group until she became the CFO of Irwin & Browning, Inc. (subsequently purchased by Right Management), a management consulting firm specializing in organizational design and executive leadership development. Prior to joining MedQuest, she served as the Vice President of Finance and Operations for the Southern Region of Right Management.
Ms. Kurtz has a dual degree in Finance and Accounting from the University of Dayton and is a licensed CPA in the State of Georgia. She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, as well as the CFO Roundtable and CFO Alliance, and also serves as Treasurer and a member of the Board of Directors of Hoffman Industrial Company.
Vice President and General Counsel
Per Normark is the Vice President and General Counsel of MedQuest, Inc. and has been with MedQuest since 2006. Mr. Normark directs and manages MedQuest’s corporate transactions, litigation strategy, risk management initiatives and contract negotiations, including software licensing, major medical equipment acquisitions, equipment service and payor agreements. Mr. Normark also oversees MedQuest’s human resources department and handles all employment and labor matters. Mr. Normark has extensive knowledge and experience in Certificate of Need matters and oversees MedQuest’s Certificate of Need activities across the nation.
Prior to joining MedQuest, he served as an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Georgia and in that capacity handled complex litigation matters involving healthcare laws, regulations and policy. He has also served as criminal prosecutor and as the Director of Legal services for the State of Georgia’s Medicaid agency.
Mr. Normark received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Wisconsin – Madison and his Juris Doctorate from Creighton University School of Law. He is a member of the State Bar of Georgia and American Health Lawyers Association.
Chief Medical Officer
Dr. Sophia Brothers Peterman is the Chief Medical Officer of MedQuest, Inc. She is responsible for developing clinical policies and procedures, as well as quality and safety initiatives. In this capacity, she leads MedQuest’s “First Do No Harm” initiative and guided the creation of a real-time quality metric dashboard that tracks center-level quality and safety metrics.
Dr. Peterman also designed and implemented the company’s physician peer review program. Dr. Peterman is dedicated to patient quality and safety, integrating technology to optimize radiology workflow, and understanding the practical applications of radiologic advancements.
Dr. Peterman has more than 20 years of clinical radiologic experience with a neuroradiology focus. She is Board-Certified in Diagnostic Radiology with CAQ in neuroradiology. Dr. Peterman attended the University of Michigan Medical School and completed her surgical internship at University of Michigan and then her residency in radiology at Emory University. She also completed her Master’s degree in Public Health at Emory University.
