Mobile Mammography - offered by Novant Health Imaging
The Novant Health Breast Center Mobile Mammography Unit is a 38-ft. multi-functional coach that offers cutting-edge screening mammography services out in the community. The purpose of the program is to greatly increase access to mammography screening for women throughout the community and is a collaborative effort between Novant Health Breast Center, Novant Health Foundation and several individual and corporate donors.

The unit will provide screening services to women in our community where they live, work, and attend civic activities and faith-based services. The focus is to provide these services to all women, regardless of ability to pay. The unit is expected to perform approximately 25-30 screenings a day.

Novant Health Breast Center established a mobile service in Winston-Salem in 1993 to provide breast cancer screening in the workplace in an effort to reach more women and to educate them on the importance of proper breast care. Our mobile facilities serve area businesses, medical offices, clinics and churches. In 2012, an additional mobile service was added to serve the Charlotte area.

Thanks to generous support of BB&T, Agnes and Ed Weisiger, Goodrich, Cowgirls with a Cause, Mecklenburg Radiology Associates, Charlotte and Triad Affiliates of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, the Avon Foundation, the National Breast Cancer Foundation Fund and the American Cancer Society, as well as other funding available through the Forsyth Medical Center Foundation and Presbyterian Hospital Foundation, Novant Health Breast Center and our mobile service has been able to help underserved women gain education and access to mammography services. Our mission is to educate women regarding breast self-examination, mammograms and clinical breast exams.

Life-Saving Mission
In our community, there is a tremendous opportunity to raise awareness and empower women to take control of their breast health. Factors associated with poor adherence to annual mammography recommendations, according to a National Institutes of Health study, include lack of knowledge of the necessity of mammograms, cost, being too busy, and forgetting to make or keep mammography appointments.

Through community outreach initiatives and partnerships with local businesses and organizations, the Novant Health Breast Center Mobile Mammography Unit will significantly increase the number of women age 40 and older in Forsyth and Mecklenburg Counties who receive annual mammograms.

The Novant Health Breast Center Mobile Mammography Unit features:
Digital mammography technology
All-female technologists
Check-in and registration area
Private changing room with separate clinical exam room
Privacy and comfort of a traditional screening center with the convenience of a fully functioning mobile unit

What is mammography? Mammography is the best test to identify breast cancer early, when it is more likely to be curable.

What if I cannot afford to have a mammography screening performed? There will be a focus on providing these services to all women, regardless of ability to pay through specially dedicated grants and fundraising efforts.

What if my last mammogram was not at a Novant Health facility? You can still receive a mammogram on the Novant Health Breast Center Mobile Mammography Unit. Our team will contact your previous provider to obtain films from your most recent mammogram. Past exams are necessary to ensure that no changes have occurred in your breast health.

Where will the mobile mammography unit travel? Novant Health Breast Center Mobile Mammography Unit will provide screening services to women in the community where they live, work and attend civic activities and faith-based services. Also, employer will be able to reserve the mobile unit for their business's and employee's benefit.

Will this screening be covered by my insurance? Mammograms are covered as a preventative screening under most insurance plans. For your convenience, we will file a claim with your insurance provider on your behalf.
